SOLVENT TRAP PARTS

Cleaning your firearm after each shooting or hunting session is very important! Sometimes, finding the right cleaning tools to get your firearm maintained properly can be a problem. One of the most effective ways to clean your firearm is with a solvent trap. But unfortunately, there are only some that understand just how helpful these can be.

WHAT IS A SOLVENT TRAP, EXACTLY?

A solvent trap is a firearm accessory designed to clean and maintain a firearm. The solvent trap attaches to the end of the firearm’s barrel. Effectively “trapping” the cleaning fluid, protecting the person from exposure to chemicals, and making it safe to dispose of the used solvent properly.

4 MAIN PARTS OF A SOLVENT TRAP

Solvent traps are usually made up of four main parts, each important to its functions. They are as follows:

  • Storage Cups: Storage Cups are designed to keep the fluid inside the trap. The gun owner inserts cups depending on how much is necessary to allow enough space at the muzzle size of the solvent trap for the trapped fluid to gather. After cleaning, a solvent trap can then be removed from the barrel, and the used solvent can be transferred to another container to be either recycled or properly disposed of. Solvent trap cups are usually made of aluminum, stainless steel, or titanium.

Aside from just cleaning, solvent trap cups can serve other purposes. For example, dry storage cups are compartmentalized sections and thus are able to store cleaning supplies, bore cleaning, lubricants, and other oils. It can then be placed in the solvent trap until its inevitable employment during your next cleaning session. This makes storage cups ideal for use during and after hunting excursions.

  • Solvent Trap Tube: A solvent trap tube is attached to the threaded muzzle of the firearm to hold the cups together. It is technically a muzzle accessory within the category of firearm cleaning accessories that is intended solely for catching and trapping firearm cleaning fluid and residual debris. While the tube does attach to the firearm, it DOES NOT INTEND nor ALLOW a projectile of any sort to pass through, this is key!

Most cleaning solvents contain chemicals that can be harmful come into contact with human skin. The tube of the solvent trap is designed to prevent potential harm to the user during the cleaning process.

  • Sealed End Caps: Used to seal both ends of the solvent trap tube. Sealed End Caps serve the purpose of “sealing” the end of the solvent trap to ensure the capturing of all of the fluid and other debris that may be dislodged in the process of cleaning. Solvent trap sealed end caps are made from premium materials, such as titanium and aluminum, all of Solventtrap.co’s aluminum sealed end caps are made of Aircraft Grade Aluminum. They also come in various shapes, including hexagonal, making it easier to screw them on and off.

  • Thread Mounts: Thread mounts screw onto the muzzle end of the solvent trap and are equipped with a barrel thread of varying pitches. Depending on the type of firearm they are being used to clean, sizes differ, such as – 1 / 2 x 28″ being used for 9mm, .22LR, 5.56 NATO caliber firearms, and 5/8×28″ being used to clean larger .30 Cal Firearms. Solventtrap.co’s thread mounts are identical in build and material of the sealed end cap of the respective solvent trap they are installed on. It will have an identically constructed thread mount, with the only difference being the additional inner threading for the specific firearm(s) barrel they are intended to clean.

These are the four crucial parts of a solvent trap kit. Additional parts can also be purchased, including streamlined cleaning products, like muzzle extension devices, and more…

Take note, as with any consumer product; solvent traps are meant to be used solely to clean firearms. Solvent traps are not NFA items and are legal to purchase and own, provided they are not altered, modified, or redesigned without going through the proper legal channels.

THE LEGALITY OF SOLVENT TRAP PARTS

Everyone wants to save money. Knock-off versions are a perfectly harmless way to save a few bucks. This is never the case with firearms and their accessories. If you choose to buy lower-quality products, you are placing yourself at risk in many different ways, from a safety perspective, and from a legal one.

Everything sold by Solventtrap.co is proprietary, so beware of replicas and clones that use lower quality metals marketed as higher quality. There are many low-quality finishes that break easily on a single-use and thread mismatches that cause solvent leakage! So make sure to only buy from reputable distributors.
